If we analyze confidential internal data from the Trauma Hospital, the consequences of the operating room blockages are alarming. What you see in the following video is the waiting list for surgeries, obtained exclusively by Inside Story. On that list, over 2,000 patients have been waiting for months to undergo surgical interventions. This queue corresponds to registrations up to December 2025, as the number of waiting patients has increased in recent months. Among them, there are citizens who have been waiting for more than a year. "I want to ask you about an intervention you had scheduled at the Trauma Hospital in March of last year, have you done it? No, they haven't notified us, no communication for over a year," said a citizen. "He can't walk at all from his knees, we were in Librazhd, he can't walk at all, he's stuck here. He got medication in Italy everywhere, nothing works, he needs surgery," said a citizen. "No, they haven't notified us at all. We went there, did that planning, left our phone number, and now we were waiting. Two months passed, 3 months, 6 months, over a year, no notification, nothing at all," said a citizen. "An important element to consider is whether the extension time of the waiting list is longer than the time that has already passed for reconstruction. If this exceeds, it means it's not only related to the reconstruction time but also to other elements. For example, if we have a 3-month reconstruction delay, it makes sense that the waiting list is postponed by three months, but if it's postponed more, there are other factors," said Dr. Ilir Alimehmeti. However, the hospital management told "Inside Story" that it has reduced the waiting list, which in 2022 went up to 6 years of waiting. According to the hospital, the current waiting list has been reduced to 570 patients. Trauma: The waiting list for endoprosthesis reached, by the end of 2022, over 1,100 patients, and the waiting time was 6 years. Since the beginning of 2023, sufficient budgeting has allowed covering all emergencies and gradually performing backlogged interventions. Currently, the number of waiting patients has been halved, 570 patients on the list, resulting from removals from the list after surgeries and new registrations, and the waiting time has been reduced to about 13 months. But, in the internal lists obtained by Inside Story, the queue number of 2002 people until December 2025 is clear, not counting patients from 2026. It is true that some of them have received the service, but the question remains as to how many have received it, how they intervened in the queue, and why their names are still on file... Some of the patients reported the phenomenon to our editorial office. To understand the scale, we called many people on the waiting list, who confirmed the difficult situation. They prefer not to be identified as they fear retaliation and are not in the economic condition to turn to private service. The cases and challenges they face are among the most varied. A lady told us about being misdiagnosed for 9 years, and then, when the problem was understood, she again had to wait to receive medical service. "I'm waiting, still not. Do you have concerns? I have many. Where is your intervention? I fell, the pelvis, I don't know how it is, but I need a prosthesis. I left it about two years ago, I've been like this for 10 years because I didn't know. They did scans, they found those rheumatic diseases, spondyloarthrosis. After 9 years, I did an X-ray and found out I was very bad. And meanwhile, you're still waiting? What can we do? We wait. The doctor said it depends when the prosthesis will come, it could take 1 year, 2 years, 3 years. It depends on the state's requests. They told me that to put the iron in the knee, in the right knee, you'll wait 4 years. How long do you have to wait for this? They told me 4 years. There's one who writes after the doctor and I said, I've been 3-4 times, and I said my turn has come. No, she said, it hasn't come. I said how hasn't my turn come, I've been waiting for two years to have surgery, how hasn't my turn come? Well, she said, the machine breaks. I said, but I don't have money," said a citizen. "If it is true that an orthopedic emergency presented at Trauma, due to the lack of operating rooms, is not done and days or weeks pass, this is then completely mismanagement, it's criminal, because the patient has not been given the proper service according to the provisions of the law on health services and the Constitution in the Republic of Albania. In cases of Trauma and immediate emergencies, there cannot be waiting, and the intervention is recommended to be done immediately. If we say waiting list at Trauma, there shouldn't be one," said Dr. Besnik Jakaj.
