The Himarë police intervened to prevent a serious family incident, where a 35-year-old man had held his parents hostage in their apartment, threatening them with a cutting tool.
The incident occurred in Himarë, where citizen Spiro Dhimaleksi, in a severe psychological state, had isolated his parents, aged 60 and 65, in a room, threatening to kill them with a knife. Immediately after receiving the report, police forces arrived at the scene and began negotiations with the 35-year-old.
After more than an hour of intensive negotiations, a police officer, who is a resident of the area, managed to communicate directly with the perpetrator, helping to reduce the tension. At the moment of intervention, the 35-year-old attempted to harm himself with the cutting tool, causing injuries to his abdominal area. Police officers intervened immediately, neutralizing him and removing the cutting tool, which allowed the safe rescue of both parents without injuries.
Subsequently, the 35-year-old was first taken to the Himarë Police Station and then to Vlorë, where he received medical assistance at the regional hospital and was referred for treatment in psychiatric services. Meanwhile, his parents were questioned by authorities to clarify the full circumstances of the incident. The police reported that thanks to professional intervention and careful negotiations, a potential tragedy was averted.
