An illegal migrant has been accused of causing life-changing trauma to a three-year-old girl after launching a suspected cannibal attack on her. Indian national Atharva Vyas, 24, was arrested in Texas this week following a suspected attack on a minor and her mother in San Antonio on April 18. Gabriella Perez said the family had traveled from LaCoste to Espada Park for a day of fishing. She explained that around 2:00 p.m., she took Amelia to the restroom, and after coming out, a deranged man violently attacked them. Authorities later identified the suspect as Atharva Vyas, who had illegally entered the United States from India. The mother of the toddler claimed the man grabbed her by the hair and punched her in the jaw. She added that when she put her child on the ground to protect her from the blows, the man then attacked her as well. Gabriella alleged that the man then jumped on top of the little girl during the horrific incident, reports "Express US." Perez also stated that the suspect forced the child to lie on the ground, dug his thumbs into her eyes, and then bit her on the face and mouth. The Department of Homeland Security informed "The New York Post" that Vyas arrived in the U.S. in August 2023 on a student visa and was later arrested on the campus of the University of Texas on an aggravated assault charge. "The Post" also revealed that ICE was notified after the arrest, although federal authorities chose not to revoke his visa at that time. The visa was ultimately revoked in April 2025. ICE filed a detainer request with the San Antonio Police Department after the April 18 arrest. The Immigration and Customs Enforcement agency requested that Vyas be turned over to federal custody once local criminal proceedings were completed, according to the report. The Perez family has launched a GoFundMe so that mother Gabriella can stay home with her daughter, who she says is now traumatized. The child's mother claimed that two of her daughter's teeth were pulled out during the attack. Following the incident, the toddler was rushed to Christus Children's Hospital for medical care. Authorities alleged that Vyas had consumed "wax," a potent cannabis concentrate. Research shows the substance can cause psychosis and paranoia, along with impaired impulse control. During the incident, bystanders intervened and held the man down until officers arrived, the family revealed. Vyas was taken to the Bexar County Jail and charged with injury to a child with intent to cause bodily harm, assault causing bodily injury, and illegal entry by a foreign national, according to court records.
