Bosnia and Herzegovina imported approximately 4.2 tons of drones last year, valued at around 1.5 million euros, with over 90% of them originating from China. The majority of these devices are used for commercial and recreational purposes, primarily equipped with cameras for photos and videos.
Currently, the import of drones into the country is not specifically regulated, while users are only obligated to register them. Authorities are considering legal changes to impose stricter controls, due to the increase in imports and potential security risks.
Experts warn that civilian drones could be misused for various purposes, while the EU and the U.S. are strengthening regulations on their use and import, especially for devices of Chinese origin.
In the region, China remains the main supplier of drones, while the debate over their security and control is growing in parallel with the spread of the technology.
