Turkish former Defense Minister and current Chairman of the Defense Committee of the Turkish Grand National Assembly, Hulusi, made provocative statements. In a post on X, Akar declared that "in the homeland of Turkish Cypriots, those who dream of Easter... will live their last Easter." At the same time, on April 2, he had argued that the existence of two sovereign and equal states on the island constitutes, in his view, an inevitable development. The statements by the former Turkish minister bring the discussion on the Cyprus issue back to the forefront, at a time when the matter remains particularly sensitive at a diplomatic and geopolitical level.
