The head of the Democratic Party, Sali Berisha, has accused Prime Minister Edi Rama regarding the Durrës Port project, claiming it involves an economic damage of about 3.8 to 4 billion euros. In a public statement, Berisha said the project aims to transform the existing port into a tourist area of the "Dubai of 1001 Nights" type, which constitutes a plunder of public wealth. He also warned about the impact of building a new port in Porto Romano, claiming its cost could reach around 1 billion euros. "Meanwhile, the anger and revolt of Albanian citizens is boiling more and more. I was in Durrës yesterday for one of the most shocking affairs, that of Durrës Port. Durrës Port, which Edi Rama wants to transform into the Dubai of 1001 Nights, constitutes a plunder of public wealth of at least 3.8 to 4 billion euros and a penalty for the construction of the new port in Porto Romano of 1 billion euros. At the same time, it must be said that Porto Romano, with its dimensions and project, is a port that ultimately devalues Albania's ports, giving priority to other ports in the region. This port has a quarter of the current capacity of Durrës Port, and one-eighth to one-fiftieth of the ports in the region. So Albania, from a country with a strategic port for the EU like Durrës Port, becomes a country without important ports, and this solely so that Edi Rama can become a super-billionaire. Therefore, I invite you to debate these issues and what issues you consider important," he said.
