Kosovo's Minister of Internal Affairs, Xhelal Sveçla, has reacted after two Serbs were sentenced to life imprisonment for their involvement in the terrorist attack in Banjska, where Kosovo Police officer Afrim Bunjaku lost his life. "On this important day for the justice of the Republic of Kosovo, the verdict for the terrorist attack in Banjska should and must reflect only one standard: maximum sentences for all those involved. This standard must apply to every member as part of a much wider network of 45 identified individuals, without exception," Sveçla said in a Facebook post. "The attack of September 24, 2023, was not an isolated act, but an operation organized with state support from Serbia, aimed at undermining the constitutional order and annexing a part of Kosovo's territory. That day, the Republic of Kosovo not only confronted terrorism but stopped a dangerous scenario of division. This is evidenced by the facts and evidence documenting Serbia's direct involvement." Sveçla added that today, criminal and paramilitary structures in northern Kosovo have been dismantled. "The constitutional order has been protected. Now it remains for Serbia to be held accountable for its political, financial, and logistical role in this aggression. The sentence does not bring back hero Afrim Bunjaku, but it is a step toward justice for his sacrifice and for the pain that remains with his family, colleagues, and all our citizens. This decision should be a clear message: anyone who undermines the Republic of Kosovo and its Police will face justice. Justice for Banjska does not end here. It concludes only when all those responsible are brought to justice, starting with Milan Radoičić."
