The latest session of the Durrës Municipal Council was marked by intense debates between the majority and the opposition, while outside the building, protests continued by residents affected by the TID project. Residents from the Baks-Rrjoll area also joined in support of the protesters. Part of the meeting was one of the two councilors expelled from the Democratic Party, Dritan Burgija, who, after its conclusion, joined the protesters along with Democratic councilor Ardian Muka. During the discussions, Muka requested that representatives of the residents be allowed to participate in the meeting to present their concerns, but this request was not accepted. The Chairwoman of the Municipal Council, Denisa Luarasi, clarified that responses to the raised issues would also be published online. The debates mainly focused on salary increases for the administration and municipal enterprises. The opposition opposed this initiative, deeming it unjustified, especially for municipal leaders and the mayor Emiriana Sako, while expressing support for salary increases for teachers, kindergarten staff, municipal police, and lower-level administration. On the other hand, criticism was raised regarding the lack of improvement in administrative performance. The meeting also approved the reallocation of approximately 714 million lekë from reconstruction funds for 2026, while concerns were highlighted about delays in this process. Deputy Mayor Gentian Kallmi stated that the distribution of housing is ongoing and that most families have already received keys to apartments in the new neighborhood in Spitallë. All items on the agenda were approved by a majority vote, amid a tense atmosphere and continuous debates.
