Within a few weeks, their relationship became sexual. Later, Monica revealed the moment she finally expressed her overwhelming feelings to her son. "I'm sorry, I don't know how you'll react to this. I am your mother and you are my son, but I am falling in love with you," she told her son, who confessed the same to her. They began living as a couple in New Mexico, although initially they tried to keep things secret until neighbors grew suspicious. Meanwhile, police were called following reports of a local disturbance, leading them to uncover the true nature of their relationship. Both Monica and Caleb were arrested and charged under New Mexico law, where incest is considered a fourth-degree felony. The pair were released on conditional terms but were prohibited from any contact with each other. Since her arrest, Monica claims to have received death threats and warnings about her fate if she were imprisoned.
