Just hours before the match between Atletico Madrid and Barcelona, UEFA decided to dismiss the Catalan club's complaint regarding the handball incident in the first leg of the quarterfinal held at Camp Nou. Diego Pablo Simeone's team won 2-0 last week, and Barcelona had complained about an incident where Atletico Madrid defender Marc Pubill touched the ball with his hand after what appeared to be a goalkeeper's clearance. On the 9th, Barcelona submitted a protest note regarding the referee's decision not to award a penalty, emphasizing that the moment had a direct impact on the match's development and its outcome. However, UEFA's Control, Ethics, and Disciplinary Committee, in a statement, declared Barcelona's protest as inadmissible. Barcelona had also protested the non-intervention of the VAR system, which did not call referee Istvan Kovacs to review the incident in question.
