Authorities in Borlänge have decided to temporarily close around 20 schools following several threats related to potential violent acts against educational institutions. The decision was made by the municipality as a preventive measure to ensure the safety of students and staff. Specifically, 16 public schools suspended classes, while five private institutions also followed suit by halting activities.
Swedish police confirmed they have received information about threats that may target the city's schools and have opened an investigation into "serious unlawful threats against a group." However, officials emphasize that at this stage it remains unclear whether there is a concrete danger or an unfounded alarm.
The city of Borlänge, with approximately 45,000 residents, is located about 200 kilometers north of Stockholm.
Although such incidents are not common in Sweden, sensitivity to security issues has increased significantly after the tragic attack that occurred in Örebro in February 2025, where an armed individual killed 10 people at an adult education center—one of the most severe incidents in the country's history.
Investigations into the Borlänge case continue, while authorities remain on alert for any further developments.
