Mevlan Ademi, the organizer of the protest held in Skopje where Albanian students demanded the administration of the jurisprudence exam in the Albanian language, has responded to a statement by the President of North Macedonia. President Gordana Siljanovska-Davkova had stated that "it was the right and duty of every citizen to know the Macedonian language." Student Mevlan Ademi responded by clarifying that rights cannot be confined to a single language. Citing examples from countries like Finland, Switzerland, or Belgium, student Ademi expressed that their case is the same and cannot be excluded from international practices, adding that multilingual states operate on the principle of real equality, not limitation. "Do not distort public opinion! An experienced lawyer should know very well that rights cannot be confined to a single language. International practice clearly demonstrates: In Finland, the jurisprudence exam is conducted in two languages: Finnish and Swedish. In Switzerland, the candidate chooses the language in which they are tested. In Belgium, the system operates with separate procedures according to language: Flemish or French. If it is argued that translation into Macedonian could distort the meaning, then this risk is the same for any language. Is the Albanian citizen who does not master Macedonian not placed at a disadvantage? If the concern is the quality of translation, the solution is not limitation, but the full functioning of the system also in the Albanian language, from the jurisprudence exam to judicial procedures. We are no exception. Multilingual states operate on the principle of real equality, not limitation. And that is precisely where the solution lies," writes the protest organizer.
