A member of the National Council in the Democratic Party and former parliamentary candidate, Ilir Alimehmeti, has left open the possibility of running for the Municipality of Tirana. In an interview for the 'Breaking' Top News program, when asked about a potential candidacy for the Municipality of Tirana, he did not rule out this possibility, emphasizing that the process depends on how the races within the Democratic Party will be organized. Alimehmeti made it known that the party's statute is currently under review, which will determine whether the primary system or another form of candidate selection will be applied. Alimehmeti has remained true to his objective, as he expressed, and it has not changed; it remains the same. "I have always been clear about my aims, my objectives. The race I have entered has never been a party race, but an electoral one. I have entered the race against the political opponent, namely the Socialist Party. I have never entered internal party races. Meanwhile, if there are no primaries, then it must be seen how this works. Will it be a proposal from the small leadership or from the chairman; especially for Tirana, it will be a very political decision, not so simple. I have always had my objective, it does not shift, I am the same," expressed Alimehmeti. Meanwhile, a few days ago, Berisha withdrew from Florian Binaj's candidacy, stating that the opposition will decide on its candidacy, not an independent candidate. The Democratic leader said that preparations have begun and that candidates will be presented many months before the 2027 local elections. "The opposition has started work and will soon complete the process of analysis and selections within the party. Meanwhile, while thinking, work is also being done for the local elections. So it will not be two months before, I assure you it will be much earlier than the last elections, and we will do everything for the best candidacies," said Berisha a few days ago.
