French President Emmanuel Macron responded to Donald Trump's comments regarding remarks made about the incident of being slapped by his wife.
A day earlier, Trump had joked about the French president and his spouse during a private dinner, while criticizing NATO allies who did not join the fight against Iran. He imitated a French accent and said that Macron's wife, Brigitte Macron, "treats him very badly" and that Macron was still "recovering from the slap she gave him."
During a visit to Seoul, Macron, accompanied by his wife, described these comments as "inelegant and below standard."
"I will not respond, they do not deserve a response," Macron told reporters.
He emphasized that the focus should be on efforts to reduce tensions in the Middle East and achieve a ceasefire.
"There is a lot of noise and everything is chaotic. We need stability, calm, and a return to peace; this is not a show," he said, also referring to the frequent shifts in political stances by Trump.
