Knives, improvised cutting tools, scissors, forks, electronic devices, and even lighters and melted casings turned into cold weapons. This is the "menu" of seizures following a surprise inspection today at the Peqin high-security prison. The Prison Police, assisted by other sectors, conducted checks in all external and internal areas, from the library and gym to the kitchen, cells, and the 41 bis regime. Dozens of improvised cold weapons and electronic devices intended to enable possible communications or be converted into weapons were discovered. During the operation, advanced technology tools were used, including special detectors, scanners, monitoring drones, and anti-drug trained dogs, which significantly increased the efficiency of the inspection and the identification of violations. The outcome of the action highlighted a series of security rule breaches. Prohibited items were identified and seized, among them improvised cutting tools, casings, and other illegal materials, as well as unlawful interferences in the electrical system through modified circuits. In one case, a suspicious quantity of narcotic substances was also identified, for which legal procedures were immediately initiated. As part of this operation, the authorities also took immediate measures to enhance security, transferring two inmates serving life sentences, who were considered highly dangerous to order and safety within the institution. The operation was led by the General Director of Prisons, Adriatik Kupi, and the Director of the Prison Police, Paulin Rajta, involving a large number of operational and special forces from the Prison Police Directorate. Security forces from a series of penitentiary institutions across the country also participated in this action, including those from Fier, Vlora, Korça, Berat, Rrogozhina, Elbasan, "Jordan Misja," Shkodra, Burrel, Fushë-Kruja, and Durrës, making the inspection one of the most extensive recent operations in the prison system.
