Former Durrës prosecutor and Democratic Party MP Arjan Ndoja testified this Thursday at the Special Court in the trial of defendants Amar Shkëmbi and Bledar Polovina, regarding the assassination attempt at the Shkozet overpass. The incident occurred on November 1, 2019, where he and Aleksandër Laho were wounded, while driver Andi Maloku lost his life.
For the second time in nine months, Ndoja provided clarifications on the same episode, recounting the full dynamics of the event. "When we stopped at the gas station, after it, up to the Shkozet overpass, gunfire began. The shots came from the right side of the vehicle. When the first hits occurred, I didn't realize they were gunshots. There were two weapons because they had different sounds and the time intervals were different. It all happened within 20 seconds, until the vehicle went off the road. I didn't see where the shots were coming from. When Andi Maloku was wounded, he swerved the steering wheel, and we collided with one of the traffic dividers. Andi Maloku was conscious, but I was disoriented due to my injury. When I got out of the vehicle, I lost consciousness. After the assassination attempt, I never learned where the shots came from." Ndoja denied having any knowledge of the perpetrators of this incident, stating that he left it to the prosecution to uncover. He added that to this day, he is at ease because he owes nothing to anyone.
In addition to Ndoja, several other witnesses requested by the case prosecutor Adnan Xholi appeared at the Special Court.
Bledar Polovina, who is being tried in absentia, and Amar Shkëmbi, who was extradited from Dubai to Albania some time ago, are being tried for several criminal offenses. For the same incident, in a separate trial, Plaurent Dervishaj and Julian Meçaj are being tried, while Redjan Rraja has been sentenced to life imprisonment and Arjol Halilaj to 35 years in prison by a final court decision.
