One of the oldest women in Great Britain recently celebrated her 112th birthday, also sharing her secret to a long and happy life. Marjorie Hodnett Aylward, otherwise known as "Aunt Marj," is currently the oldest person in the northwest of the country and the fifth oldest in the entire United Kingdom. She celebrated her birthday at Formby Manor residence in Merseyside, where she has lived for six years, surrounded by staff and friends, with a traditional tea, sandwiches, and cake party. For this occasion, she received over 125 greeting cards, including a special message from King Charles. When asked about the secret to longevity, "Aunt Marj" offers a simple message: "Look forward with hope and not back with regret, don't go back to ex-partners, only look ahead." She adds that "Life is to be lived and it's up to you to make the most of it," emphasizing the importance of kindness and dedication to others at every moment of life. Born in London in 1914, she has experienced more than a century of history, living through two world wars and major social changes. Despite personal losses in life, she has continued to remain active and engaged, working for years as a teacher and cultivating her passions for reading, poetry, and painting. "I really didn't expect to reach 112 years old, but I am happy to be here and have so much to celebrate," she says.
