The International Institutional Accreditation Certificate is awarded by the Turkish Higher Education Quality Council (YÖKAK), and IUS received it after successfully demonstrating compliance with the standards of the 2025 International Institutional Accreditation Program.
It is important to emphasize that YÖKAK is registered in the European Quality Assurance Register for Higher Education (EQAR) and operates in accordance with European standards (ESG), which adds additional international weight and credibility to this accreditation. The certificate was ceremoniously presented by the President of YÖKAK, Prof. Dr. Ümit Kocabıçak, to the President of the IUS Board of Trustees, Prof. Dr. Sevgi Kurtulmuş.
This is the result of a long and demanding evaluation process in which all key segments of the University's operations were analyzed – from governance and teaching processes to research, student support, and social contribution. For this reason, this accreditation represents a collective success of the entire academic and administrative community of IUS.
This quality certification has direct significance for students as well. It further strengthens the recognition and value of an IUS diploma, both in Bosnia and Herzegovina and abroad, and opens up broader opportunities for further education and professional development. It holds particular importance for the large number of students from Turkey, as well as for domestic and international students, as it confirms that the teaching process is conducted in accordance with internationally recognized standards. On the occasion of this significant achievement, the Rector of IUS, Prof. Dr. Ali Osman Kuşakcı, stated: "At the International University of Sarajevo, quality in education and research is the foundation of our vision. The International Institutional Accreditation awarded by YÖKAK is the most important proof of that commitment. I especially want to emphasize that IUS is the first university outside of Turkey to receive this accreditation. This result is the fruit of years of dedicated work in the areas of governance, education, research, and social contribution, as well as the joint engagement of all our employees, students, alumni, and partners. I sincerely thank everyone for that."
The Rector added that IUS will continue to work on improving quality in the coming period through new national and international accreditations of study programs, noting that visits from renowned accreditation agencies from Germany are already underway.
With this recognition, the International University of Sarajevo once again confirms its commitment to quality, international recognition, and continuous development in line with modern higher education standards.
