Irine Mlola, the Director General of COPRA, announced this figure at the first National Stakeholder Conference on Spices held in the eastern region of Morogoro, noting that Tanzania remains among the world's leading spice producers, ranking third globally in cardamom production and fifth in clove production. She added that global demand for spices is estimated at 11 million tons annually, with key products such as cardamom, cinnamon, cloves, and black pepper accounting for about one million tons. Despite its strong global position, Mlola stated that Tanzania's current production, estimated at 20,282 tons per year, remains low. The government aims to increase spice production to 50,000 tons by 2030 through improved agricultural technologies, enhanced market systems, and stronger value chains.
