The 142-meter-long Nord, valued at $500 million, sailed from Dubai overnight and passed through the strait en route to Muscat, Oman, according to CNN, citing data from maritime analytics company MarineTraffic. The yacht used a shipping route that Iran declared safe after mines were laid in parts of the strait during the war. The route runs closer to the Iranian coast and near Larak Island, an area under the control of Iran's Revolutionary Guard Corps. Mordashov, the chairman of Russian metals and mining giant Severstal, is one of Russia's wealthiest individuals, with an estimated fortune of around $30 billion. He and his family members were placed under U.S. sanctions following Russia's invasion of Ukraine in 2022. The Nord is one of the world's largest yachts, featuring two helipads, and its crew can include a chef, a fitness trainer, and a masseur.
