The series stars Kevin Sussman, Lauren Lapkus, Brian Posehn, and John Ross Bowie, with the news announced on Sunday during the "Stuart Fails to Save the Universe" panel at CCXP Mexico City.
During the panel, it was also revealed that the original musical theme for the series will be composed by Emmy and Grammy Award winner Danny Elfman, best known for his work on the films "The Nightmare Before Christmas" and "Corpse Bride."
According to the description of this sci-fi series, comic book store owner Stuart Bloom is tasked with restoring reality after breaking a device built by Sheldon and Leonard, accidentally causing a multiversal Armageddon.
Stuart is aided in his quest by his girlfriend Denise, geologist friend Bert, and quantum physicist Barry Kripke. Along the way, they encounter alternate universe versions of characters we've come to know and love from "The Big Bang Theory." As the title implies, things don't go as expected.
The series was originally announced as a project in April 2023, co-created by Chuck Lorre, Zak Penn, and Bill Prady.
Production is handled by Chuck Lorre Productions in collaboration with Warner Bros. Television, where Lorre has a working agreement, with Lorre, Penn, and Prady also serving as executive producers.
"Stuart Fails to Save the Universe" is the fourth project in "The Big Bang Theory" franchise. In addition to the original series, which ran for 12 highly-rated seasons on CBS, the prequel "Young Sheldon" concluded its seven-season run in May 2024.
The spin-off series "Georgie and Mandy's First Marriage," starring Montana Jordan and Emily Osment, premiered on CBS in October 2024.
