The derby match was played at the Pecara Stadium, where Široki Brijeg pulled off a major surprise, keeping their hopes alive for a European spot, although they are still far from achieving it.
The goal that gave Široki Brijeg the lead was scored by Mihael Klepač in the 39th minute, and the teams went into halftime with a 1-0 scoreline.
It seemed that the visitors would turn the game around in the second half, as Dan Lagumdžija equalized for Zrinjski in the 55th minute.
However, just six minutes before the end, the match was decided, with substitute Ivan Jelić becoming Široki's hero by scoring the winning goal, keeping a faint hope alive for a European qualification.
Towards the end of the match, Zrinjski scored a goal through Tomislav Kiš with a header, but it was disallowed for offside, leaving the final score at 2-1.
After this result, Široki Brijeg is four points behind fourth-placed Velež. To secure a European spot, they need to overtake Velež in the standings, and then hope that Velež loses the Bosnian Cup final against Zrinjski.
As for Zrinjski, they trail the league leaders Borac by 13 points, and the question of the Bosnian championship title seems, by all accounts, to have been decided long ago.
Result and scorers: Široki Brijeg - Zrinjski 2:1 (Klepač 39', Jelić 84' / Lagumdžija 55')
