To give users more control, Windows Update has introduced an option to extend update pauses as long as they want. Once users decide to pause updates for Windows 11, they won't be disturbed for 35 days, but now they can reset this 35-day limit as many times as they wish. However, it is ultimately recommended to install these updates, as most of them typically involve security upgrades and only occasionally require urgent fixes, but Microsoft allows users to decide when to do so.
Aria Hanson from Microsoft wrote on a blog that these changes are the result of feedback that consistently mentioned "disruptions caused by untimely updates and insufficient control over when updates occur."
In addition to delaying updates, Microsoft ensures that Windows 11 users always have the option to shut down or restart their devices without updates. These changes build on another recent change that allowed users to skip updates when setting up their new Windows devices. According to Microsoft, the latest Windows Update features are currently rolling out to those enrolled in the Windows Insider program, specifically users in the Dev and Experimental channels.
