Araghchi stated upon arriving in Russia that the visit is "a good opportunity to consult with our Russian colleagues on developments related to the war." In a video interview released by Iran's state news agency IRNA, he reminded that Iran and Russia regularly discuss broader regional and international issues, as well as topics from bilateral relations.
On his Telegram channel, he also noted that he would meet with Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov.
The visit to Russia comes after Araghchi's trips to Pakistan and Oman, at a time when peace negotiations between Washington and Tehran are at a standstill.
Russia and Iran have maintained close partnership relations for years, and Moscow has been an important diplomatic ally for Tehran during the war with the United States. No further details about the agenda of the talks in St. Petersburg have been released so far.
